Profile
waZen is Japanese female traditional paintings style based artist. waZen is the 15th generation of an old calligraphy family, which originated in 16th century.
waZen borned in Japan and grew up in the UK (London and Edinburgh) and Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and Hokkaido). From an early age, waZen learned about various traditional cultures and was raised to be the rightful heir of the family.
waZen is also a calligraphy expert and usually writes calligraphy to be dedicated to shrines. Although the number of waZen's works is very limited because waZen does waZen's creative work in between those activities, waZen is producting art works all over the world.
Production
There are three things that waZen needs for her creative work.
Brush. Japanese brush is a writing instrument made of hair and bamboo. Almost all of waZen's works are written with the brush. waZen is very particular about the hair, and only uses hair from the womb (lanugo), which is the first hair a baby cuts after birth.
Ink. waZen uses the highest quality ink made from the ultimate rapeseed oil smoke and natural indigo.
Water. Water is used to dissolve ink and paint. waZen uses water from a spring at the foot of Japan's most sacred mountain, Mt. Fuji.
NFT
waZen started in 2019 to burn her artwork after drawing it. By burning the physical original version, she was dedicating it to a shrine.
This concept has an affinity with NFT art and it inspired waZen. So in 2022, waZen and her project team decided to digitize waZen's art and distribute it to those who wish to own before burning the physical original. Therefore, there is only one digital version, and since all physical originals will be burned, only the digital version will exist in this world.
